Javaone contra XAML
Wie bei Flash und XAML geht es auch bei JavaFX um die Entwicklung von "Rich Internet Applications" - Technologie für Desktop, mobile Geräte und Fernseher
Mit JavaFX hat Sun eine Rich-Internet-Technologie vorgestellt, mit der das Unternehmen um einen Teil des Web-2.0-Marktes kämpfen wird. Schon zum Start der Entwicklerkonferenz JavaOne gestern, Dienstag, hat Sun nicht nur die Möglichkeiten von JavaFX vorgezeigt, sondern auch einen detaillierten Zeitplan für das Verfügbarwerden der Technologie vorgestellt. Die bei der letztjährigen JavaOne erstmals angekündigte Erweiterung von Java soll noch im Herbst 2008 moderne Rich-Internet-Applications (RIAs) auf Desktop-Computer bringen. Für 2009 sind auch JavaFX-Varianten für andere Endgeräte geplant, um RIAs quer über diverse Endgeräte verfügbar zu machen.

Expression Studio 2 bringt die neuesten Versionen des Webeditors Expression Web, des Interface-Designers Expression Blend und des Vektorgrafikprogramm Expression Design mit. Expression Web unterstützt nun PHP und kann Dateien aus Photshop importieren. Expression Blend kommt mit Vertex-Animationen zurecht und hat eine neue Oberfläche spendiert bekommen, in der es eine neue, geteilte Ansicht für Design und XAML gibt. Bei Expression Design hat Microsoft vornehmlich die Export-Funktionen verbessert.
